Anonymous vs Scientology

January 24th, 2008 by Paul

A war is unfolding.  A war between a group of hackers and Scientology.  The hackers are known as Anonymous or Anon.

The hackers motto is:

We Are Anonymous
We Are Legion
We Do Not Forgive
We Do Not Forget
Expect us.

The hackers are attacking the Scientology websites using a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS).  Which isn’t really hacking but more along the lines of multiple compromised computers sending out packets of information towards a targeted system.

In this case the targets are the servers that the Scientology websites are hosted on.  The influx of information usually crashes the server or consumes enough of its resources to stop it from functioning properly.

The organisation are also making harassing phone calls and sending blank faxes to the Scientology offices.

The reason for this war is that the Church of Scientology wanted to ban a leaked video of Tom Cruise promoting Scientology.  This upset a lot of people including the hackers.

In response to this ban the hackers have made their own video.  A message for the Church of Scientology.

Controversy around the Alvin and the Chipmunks Poster

July 9th, 2007 by Paul

There seems to be a lot of controversy around the new poster for the upcoming live action Alvin and the Chipmunks Movie.

Apparently people are not happy with the chipmunks looking like old school rappers.

Alvin and the Chipmunks

Comments like “They look like they’re about to mug me” have been made over at the social news site Digg.

Why did they have to make the Chipmunks look like Rappers instead of the fun musical group we all know and love? Only Hollywood knows.

UA To Be Reborn

February 28th, 2007 by Jennine

IMDB has reported that Tom Cruise is close to raising the money needed to bring United Artists, the studio founded by Charlie Chaplin, D.W. Griffith, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, back to life.

According to today’s (Tuesday) Los Angeles Times, Cruise and his producing partner Paula Wagner, have raised the nearly $500 million that it will take to finance a slate of films for the now dormant UA, 65 percent of which is owned by MGM and the remainder, by Cruise and Wagner. The money is reportedly coming from a group of Wall Street investors led by Merrill Lynch. According to the Times, UA’s first production under the deal with Cruise and Wagner is the Robert Redford-directed political drama Lions for Lambs, starring Cruise and Meryl Streep. The director and two stars agreed to defer most of their upfront fees — the entire movie is budgeted at just $35 million — in return for a cut of the gross less production and marketing costs.

If this goes ahead it should be interesting to see how things go with Tom Cruise at the helm.
